Years of drought have caused residents of Fresno County to suffer every Summer. These residents have been compelled to have water trucked in at a price. The lack of Spring rainfall has contributed to this seasonal shortage according to various geologists and city officials. Many observers are opining that the days of living the idyllic country lifestyle may be numbered.

Residents of foothill and mountain communities north of Clovis such as Dunlap, Shaver Springs, Shaver Lake, Auberry, Prather, Alder Springs and Meadow Lakes want to find quick and reliable solutions to the water problems before they impact the value of their homes and properties. While they may be forced to leave this pristine and beautiful area of the county, they may not be able to recoup the value of their homes if water is a continuing issue up there. It must be noted that a few good things are going for them. They are living in the best and most envied location that anybody who ventures out during the Spring will want to buy. These families just can't get water out of the ground because the underground is full of hard rocks and crevasses which hide the water very well. They are resorting to paying a little bit under $2000.00 to truck water to their residences and businesses. For many of them, their livelihood is in danger. "What can anybody do if there's no water to work with up here," asked one resident. "We may have to leave paradise behind if water is to be a recurring problem." Trucked-in water is stored in large water tanks. This is an expensive thing to do. Wells run on pumps. More money to be spent on electricity in the end.

Real Estate price may be stable in the Spring when there's plenty of water up there. Come the Summer months when residents are complaining of water shortage, a potential buyer may have to back down. This is exactly what the home and property owners want to avoid. They want the values of their properties to stay the same all the time.

Attracting new and well-paying businesses to the areas may be a hard enterprise with this problem. This is why the residents are organizing themselves and creating water associations to bring an end to this impasse.
